Dear Community Leader,
The Broome County Urban League is proud to be able to provide the "I Have A
Dream” Scholarship Program. Funded by a generous benefactor and local
businessman, along with his wife, Jerry and Joanna Higgins, this scholarship is
awarded to worthy students who will be attending college or training beyond high
school. This scholarship is awarded to any community youth attending a two year or
four year school. The scholarship award is $1000 and is given twice a year, in the fall
and in the spring.
Eligible youth are those who have an economic need, dedication to the community evidenced by community service volunteerism or work history that directly is related to programs that encourage or foster positive enhancements in the community. The student should also have demonstrated leadership and support of the ideals of the Urban League - to improve the quality of life of the economically, socially and educationally disadvantaged persons within the Broome County area. The student should also have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence as evidenced by a strong academic record.
Please encourage eligible students to submit the application (.pdf 140kb). You may distribute and make copies as you see necessary. Completed applications are due in our office by Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Applicants will be notified of their status by early May 2016. Recipients of the scholarship will be invited to a gala held in their honor on June 11, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
